Consolidation Questions

We have been getting several questions about industry consolidation, so we wanted to share American’s current position.

We generally don’t comment on what role AMR might play, if any, in consolidation. Consolidation could benefit shareholders, customers and employees by creating a healthier industry in which airlines are better equipped to improve services, pay off debt, reinvest in their businesses and grow. But there are many challenges to consolidation, mainly labor, regulatory issues and integration, and it remains to be seen whether it will produce benefits in the airline industry. Regardless, we will continue to manage our business prudently, work to improve our performance and continue to monitor the industry landscape.

Guess what? American Airlines is a horrible airline! It's true. Your staff are rude, your planes are uncomfortable and out of date, your food is terrible, your ability to get me to my destination on time is pathetic, and this blog idea is a joke! You stink!

I used your frequent flier miles to go to europe, and then i canceled my account b/c I don't want to ever use your airline again. Go hire the CEO of Singapore Air, Emirates Air, or any other service company and learn how to run an airline properly. You are all idiots.

Morons. You obviously treat your employees like crap which is why they are so rude to everyone.

The entire airline business should be federalized. It's truly amazing that a company as large as AA can be run by such neanderthals.

Did you set up this blog so people could just bash your company?

um. your blog is dumb.

Thanks for clearing up your position... not.

While I'm glad to see AA is trying to figure out ways to increase communications with their customers through a blog, posts like this that provides a non-answer is pointless.

So you have been getting questions about consolidation. That makes sense. But your answer didn't comment on it in any meaningful way.

Use your new blog to provide new or useful information. If you can't talk about something for legal or other reasons, then just don't talk about it.

I have started flying AA recently and came up against the service disruptions last week. I have to say that the staff handled me very professionally and did their best to rebook me. I am a PLT member with AA and I sincerely felt that they took the time to give me some of the best customer service I have received, regardless of the mess that these disruptions created.

I think its fairly obvious that the first three posters have no idea what they are doing or what they are talking about. As a person who flies very, very often I can sincerely say AA is no worse than any other American carrier. in fact, if you have Gold or higher status flying can often still be a very pleasurable experience! No small feat in this day and age. Bad Lieutenant, AA cannot run the same way Singapore or Emirates does because they lack government subsidies and are burdened by the incredibly complex labor laws and union demands that have consistently damaged the competitiveness of US carriers worldwide. PLEASE don't say things that are based on your own childish conjecture. Your big mouth is writing checks that are bouncing...hard.

This blog needs a design better than the blogspot default template as well as more emphatic and from-the-gut writing so it's not just a replacement for official news releases which doesn't qualify it as a blog except in posting procedure. I recommend Delta's blog at http://blog.delta.com/ as a great example.

Richard - we are working on an updated desing. Funny that you mention the "press releases" style of the posts. My writing is a bit AP-like, since I write several of our press releases also. We will soon have some guest blogger that will mix things up a bit.

Thanks for the feedback.

i like the idea of this blog but i also think you should have an offical lurker on some of the travel sites. i am, as are a lot of other aa frequent flyers, a flyer talk member. flyer talk forums such as starwood and now the one world alliance have official lurkers that provide information, clarify issues and solve problems. you now have some aa employees who post on their own but an official presence would be good for aa'a overall public relations image with a highly vocal and loyal aa group.

Billy S,

I'll offer a polite dissenting vote (for now) on the subject of creating a new blog 'design'.

Like the Wright Brothers, each and every blog has a slow start. What matters most is perseverance.

Add a simple header graphic if you desire, but please, please *please* focus first and foremost on content!

Content is king, and authenticity is the starting point.
